Location & History Lavenham Old Rectory
A two minute walk takes you to the centre of the village.
Lavenham was built on the back of money from the wool trade in the 15th and 16th century, with the town's blue broadcloth being an export of note.
The village enjoyed a period of significant wealth at this time and as well as the parish church with its excessively large tower laying claim to being the highest village church tower in Britain the village square boasts the impressive guildhall of the wool guild of Corpus Christi established in 1529. Most of the timber framed buildings seen today were constructed in the 17th century and are now maintained by the National Trust.
